Circuit breaker factory authorized mechanism enhancements (FAME)

Eaton’s circuit breaker factory authorized mechanism enhancement (FAME) increases the life of VCP-W medium-voltage vacuum circuit breakers and Eaton MV-VR breakers, significantly reducing costs and ongoing maintenance requirements. FAME is ideal for switchgear modernization and upgrades.
Longer life
10-year or 10,000 operation scheduled maintenance intervals
Improved reliability
Increased mechanical endurance using advanced synthetic lubricant and robust components
Long-term savings
Extended maintenance intervals reduce labor expenses and process down-time
FAME mechanism

Gain longer life and savings

The FAME process involves upfront inspections and tests, and enhances the entire mechanism to include the following components:

  • Enhanced lubrication
  • Cast iron bearing block
  • Main-link roller and cam
  • Enhanced motor cut-off cam
  • Rugged anti-reverse system
  • Enhanced vertical supports
  • Escutcheon decal

Significantly extend maintenance intervals

The maintenance interval of a FAME-enhanced VCP-W mechanism is 10,000 operations or 10 years, whichever comes first, if applied per usual service conditions as defined in IEEE Std C37.04 ™ 1999. This applies to all distribution-class circuit breakers rated up to 2000A continuous current, 41 kA max short circuit, 15 kV max voltage. FAME features a standard 3 year warranty. (2 years if applied as a motor starter)

Achieve dramatic long-term savings

The FAME process returns a superior product that requires no scheduled maintenance over a 10-year period — versus a typical VCP-W circuit breaker that can may require reconditioning up to four times in that time period. FAME may be added to a Class 1 reconditioning service, or as a stand-alone offering. Eaton also offers a tune up after 10 years to ensure your mechanism continues to operate even longer.

Remote power racking system (RPR-2.1)

Eaton’s RPR-2.1 enables remote racking of many manufacturers' low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers that can be inserted or removed using the rotation of a shaft. Operators may remain 25 feet or more away from the switchgear door during the racking process, which is outside of the arc flash protection boundary.

Preventive maintenance

It is widely documented that a well-designed, time-based preventive maintenance program can significantly reduce failure rates. Eaton’s predictive diagnostic services relies on the latest technologies to support a long-term predictive/preventive program to optimize equipment and uptime.

Crisis response services

In the wake of a disaster, speed of response is essential, as these events can cause enormous loss of property, production and revenue. With service offices strategically located throughout North America, Eaton can deploy expert crisis management through a team of engineers and technicians within hours of a disaster striking. This immediate action helps organizations return to production quickly and safely.
