Date: Second Thursday of each month

Time: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM ET

  • October 14, 2021: Capacitor unit design and construction
  • November 11, 2021: Capacitor switches and pole-mounted banks
  • January 13, 2022: Substation open-air capacitor banks from distribution up to transmission
  • February 10, 2022: Harmonics
Power capacitor special applications

October 14, 2021: Capacitor unit design and construction

Learn about the benefits of capacitor application, understand technological advances associated with capacitor design and discover the differences between internally fused and unfused units. Attendees will obtain knowledge on various product standards including application, ratings and testing requirements. Participants will receive training on the various construction and design techniques that go into capacitor unit development.
Pole-mounted capacitor bank

November 11, 2021: Capacitor switches and pole-mounted banks

Learn about oil-filled and vacuum switch technologies including construction, features and application considerations. Capacitor bank switching benefits, such as load profile and bank sizing examples, will be included. This course will provide an overview of Eaton’s pole-mounted capacitor bank offering, construction and ratings including accessories such as arresters, sensors, reactors, cutouts, power transformers, etc. Participants will receive training on Eaton’s three-phase zero voltage closing (ZVC) offering which is used to remove transients during switching events.
Open air substation capacitor bank

January 13, 2022: Substation open-air capacitor banks from distribution up to transmission

Learn about Eaton’s substation capacitor bank offerings including open-air, metal-enclosed and mobile capacitor banks. Various construction and orientation overviews will be covered. This session will include protection options, advantages and design considerations for externally fused, internally fused and fuseless bank configurations. Examples of parallel energy and stability design practices will also be presented.
Harmonic filtration

February 10, 2022: Harmonics

Participants will learn about harmonics and how they originate in power systems. Presentation will include an overview of voltage and current distortion and effect on power systems. A summary of different types of harmonic filters and how they interact with the power system is included. Participants will learn how capacitor banks are affected by harmonics and how to mitigate the impact of harmonics using harmonic filters.
