XT compact combination motor starter

XT compact combination starter

The XT compact combination starter is the latest addition to Eaton’s expansive portfolio of enclosed control products.

This starter was designed to provide complete motor circuit protection in a cost-effective, compact solution. It is a UL 508A Type F combination motor controller consisting of an XT contactor and a manual motor protector (MMP).

Standard options, including a control power transformer (CPT), cover controls and terminal blocks, reduce product complexity while still providing the flexibility to meet application-specific needs. The optional BACnet communication module allows for simple integration into building automation systems.

The reduced footprint, cohesive layout and replaceable components make it the easiest combination starter to install and maintain.

XT compact combination starter core features

  • Type 1, 3R and 12 enclosures
    • Type 1 plastic cover with captive screws and a cover retention feature
  • UL 508A Type F combination starter
  • Hand-Off-Auto selector switch and red RUN pilot light
  • Control power transformer (CPT)
  • Rotary style disconnect with lockout provision
  • Adjustable Class 10 thermal overload protection
  • BACnet MS/TP communication module (optional)
  • Terminal block inputs:
    • Remote operation of Hand-Off-Auto — Allows you to control the starter from a remote location
    • Fireman’s override — Providing voltage to the terminal block will run the starter regardless of the Hand-Off-Auto selector switch position.  This feature supersedes all other features.
    • Emergency shutdown — The starter will turn off regardless of the Hand-Off-Auto selector switch position and is only overridden by the Fireman’s override.
    • Limit switch — Combined with the actuator control output and connected to the device contacts in the field, the limit switch starts the motor only when the device is in place.
  • Terminal block outputs:
    • Actuator control — Provides a voltage output to the damper motor and works in conjunction with the limit switch.

Advantages of the XT compact combination starter

Compact design

Compact design reduces the amount of space needed and makes it easier to install.

Cost savings solution

This combination starter is a UL Type F combination motor controller consisting of an XT contactor and a manual motor protector (MMP), which make it a cost-saving solution.

Unmatched flexibility

Optional BACnet MS/TP module allows for integration into building automation systems and the field-installable kit offers flexibility unmatched in the industry.

Reduced installation/maintenance time

Compact footprint, cohesive layout and replaceable components reduce installation/maintenance time and cost.

Type 1 plastic cover with captive screws and cover retention feature prevents damage to the cover and protects against losing screws.

Coordination into most electrical systems

SCCR ratings of 65 kAIC at 480 V allows for coordination into most electrical systems.

 XT compact combination starter FAQs

What if I want different cover control options?

Hand-Off-Auto and red RUN are commonly used and provided as standard and the only option to limit the complexity of product configuration.

How is the compact XT combination starter different than using a combination starter with a circuit breaker or fused/non-fused disconnect?

This combination starter is a UL 508A Type F combination motor controller consisting of an XT contactor and an MMP.

Combination starters with a disconnect switch are UL 508A Type A and B and combination starters with a circuit breaker are Type C and D.

What if the disconnect is to be mounted separate from the starter?

If a combination starter is not needed, a non-combination starter can be provided. Eaton’s ECX09-11 non-combination XT starters can be used.
