Eaton’s portfolio of electrical studies and services are designed to help your system operate more reliably, efficiently and safely. With one of the largest and most experienced teams in the industry, Eaton offers a wide range of options, including electrical coordination studies, which is a general phrase that refers to a complete short circuit, coordination, and arc flash study. Eaton also assists our customers with arc flash mitigation techniques, OSHA required electrical safety training, failure analysis and on-site investigations.

Watch now to learn about IEEE Standard 1584-2018
The IEEE Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations was updated for the first time since 2002. Read more about how the changes resulted in a new mathematical model and calculation procedure that is more comprehensive, accurate, and complex than before.
The threat of arc flash is serious and the consequences can be devastating. While a study is essential to assessing your risk, not all are created equal.
Reset safety. If you haven't taken the proper steps to mitigate the risks of arc flash, you're compromising worker safety, and you could be breaking the law.
Data collection
Eaton performs electrical field studies, arc flash and coordination analysis for new or existing electrical power distribution systems. In addition to electrical power distribution equipment, data collection types include motor, transformers, cable, generators, utility and others. Eaton power system study engineers may request facility electrical system data or can be contracted to collect it for an organization.
Short-Circuit and Protective Device Evaluation Study
For this study, typical conductor impedances based on IEEE Std. 141-1993 are utilized, with transformer design impedances used when test impedances are not available. The study includes:
A calculation of short-circuit momentary and interrupting duties for a three-phase bolted fault is made for the following locations:
For grounded systems, a bolted line-to-ground fault current study will be provided.
Protective Device Coordination Study
Arc flash analysis summary details
The arc flash analysis considers each medium and low voltage system location within the scope of the work. For detailed calculations, the software determines the available fault currents for each location and the clearing time of the device protecting the same location. From these determinations, the potential incident energy is calculated for each location. Arc flash computations include both line and load side of main breaker calculations, where necessary.
