Eaton spotlights IoT-enabled solutions accelerating electric grid modernization

August 14, 2019

PITTSBURGH … Eaton’s Molly Murphy, senior vice president, Sales, North America, and Pennsylvania State Senator Pam Iovino, 37th Senatorial District, met at the power management company’s Pittsburgh facility today to highlight the intelligent technologies and connected devices supporting the electrical grid of tomorrow.

“At Eaton, we power the things people depend on every day, and it’s our job to make sure they work for the growing needs of our communities,”  said Murphy. “Today, we had an opportunity to spotlight how intelligent circuit protection developed here in Pittsburgh can be used to modernize the electric grid and help enable safe and reliable support for expanding electric vehicle use across Pennsylvania and the rest of the world.”

The power management industry is responding to a fundamental shift in how consumers use power and how utilities provide it. Electric grid modernization is required to address the challenges of aging infrastructure, increasing renewable energy integration and widespread vehicle electrification. Data and analytics garnered from intelligent power technologies and connected devices are laying the groundwork for this evolution.

“I was extremely impressed by the technologically advanced operations at Eaton’s Moon Township facility,” said Senator Pam Iovino (D-37th Senatorial District). “I appreciate Eaton’s contributions to the area economy and to the modernization of our electrical infrastructure.”

Senator Iovino toured Eaton’s lab for circuit protection development, which is instrumental in advancing circuit protection solutions like Eaton’s Power Defense technology. Used in electric vehicle supply equipment and across commercial and industrial applications, Power Defense circuit breakers provide game-changing intelligence and connectivity to improve power system productivity and safety while generating data that can be used to optimize power system performance, including that of electric vehicles.
