Variable Frequency Drives

PowerXL DA1 advanced variable frequency drives

The DA1 is the ideal drive for demanding applications that are speed- and torque-dependent. Eaton’s PowerXLTM product family delivers outstanding performance regarding motor control and modularity. Thanks to the enhanced performance range (up to 160 kW) and the option of a higher degree of protection (IP66), the DA1 can be used across a wide range of applications. With the integrated EMC filter, braking chopper and the Modbus RTU and CANopen protocols on board, the DA1 is ready for use straight out of the box for a variety of applications. Customer-specific adjustments are made possible by the integrated function block editor, which allows for maximum flexibility.

High overload resistance
200% torque at 0 speed
Control of high efficiency motors
PM-, BLDC- and SynRel motors
Functional safety on board
Safe Torque Off (SIL2, PL d)

Core features

  • Sensorless vector control with high overload resistance: 150 % for 60 seconds, 200 % for four seconds.
  • PLC functionality via the drivesConnect configuration software
  • Connection to all common types of communication protocols (Modbus RTU, CANopen, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCat, Modbus TCP, BACnet IP, Profibus)
  • Encoder module for variable speed feedback (closed-loop)
  • Various I/O expansions
  • Safe Torque Off (STO, SIL 2/PL d)
  • Devices up to 22 kW also in protection class IP66/NEMA 4x (outdoor rated)
  • International standards (CE, UKCA, UL, cUL, c-Tick, RoHS, Gost-R, UkrSEPRO, DNV)

Flexible use in demanding applications.

The standard version of the DA1 drive is equipped for virtually any application. The devices stand out for their high starting torque in the powerful vector mode, and for their safe operating states with STO functionality. The devices can be used in cranes, in installations that are regularly exposed to dust or contamination, and even in marine applications.

A high degree of protection for decentralized applications

Besides the IP20 protection-class devices, the DA1 also offers IP66-rated versions for applications up to 22 kW. These devices can handle damp, dusty, or contaminated environments without any issue. With the waterproof ABS case and the corrosion-resistant heat sink, they are suitable for the food industry, agriculture, or car wash systems. They have optional local control elements: an integrated setpoint potentiometer, a selector switch, and a main switch that allow the configuration of the DA1 drives on site.

PowerXL Variable Frequency Drives: DC1 and DA1

DA1 Advanced Drives and DC1 Compact Drives can be used in harsh environments.

DA1 Advanced Drives and DC1 Compact Drives for energy-efficient applications

Variable frequency drives for all motors up to IE5.

The PowerXL DA1 drive can be used to control motors up to the highest efficiency class IE5. This includes standard induction motors, three-phase asynchronous motors, permanent magnet motors, brushless DC motors and synchronous reluctance motors.

PLC functionality with drivesConnect.

If used in conjunction with the DA1 drive, you have the option to simulate and implement the PLC programming via the function block editor of the drivesConnect configuration tool. Individual logical links, for example those pertaining to time dependencies, can be set via the PLC functionality. With the simulation feature, any invalid function blocks can be instantly rectified. This makes it possible to adapt the drives to any application, cutting down on additional hardware costs in the process.

Accessories for PowerXL Drives

A variety of accessories, compatible with our PowerXL variable frequency drives, are available such as line reactors, load reactors, sine filters and braking resistors, etc. These allow you to customize the range and adapt to different EMC environments and line-side operating conditions.

Eaton will support you with all aspects related to energy efficiency.

The ErP Directive and the increasing automation of machines are driving the demand for variable speed devices, even in simple applications. What does complying with the ErP Directive mean for you, and how can you make your applications more energy efficient? You can find answers to these and other questions in our comprehensive white papers and brochures, as well as in our podcast with energy-efficiency experts from Eaton.
