SHANGHAI ... Technologies developed by power management company Eaton helped power the successful first flight of the COMAC C919, the largest commercial airliner designed and built in China by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC). The first flight was conducted today at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
“The COMAC C919 first flight is a milestone in China’s civil aviation industry. It represents an outstanding and productive effort for both Eaton and COMAC,” said Benjamin Yiu, general manager, Aerospace Group, Asia Pacific, Eaton. “With seven years of cooperation in the joint venture, Eaton has built a good relationship with COMAC and is honored to be a leading technology provider for the C919. We’re so proud to witness this important accomplishment today and will continue to support COMAC and C919 with Eaton’s world-class civil aviation technology, manufacturing capabilities and proven management practices.”
Eaton formed a Joint Venture with the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co.(SAMC), a subsidiary of COMAC, in July 2010. The joint venture is focused on the design, development, manufacture and support of hydraulic and fuel conveyance systems for the COMAC C919 single-aisle commercial aircraft program, COMAC ARJ21 regional jet program and other aircraft platforms in China and Asia Pacific markets. The Eaton-SAMC joint venture (ESJV) was COMAC’s first joint venture with a foreign company in China.
ESJV’s high-quality work has been recognized by COMAC since its first deliveries in 2013. In 2016, ESJV moved to its new plant in Zhuqiao Town, in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai. ESJV will further localize its complex manufacturing capabilities to support the commercial production of C919.
