9PX G2 FAQ

What power ratings does the 9PX G2 UPS offer?

The 9PX G2 UPS offers power ratings from 3 kVA to 11 kVA.

Which form factors are available for the 9PX G2 UPS?

The 9PX G2 UPS is available as a rack/tower UPS, which means it can be mounted in a 4-post server rack with the included rackmount kit, as a tower UPS with the included tower stands or in a 2-post server rack with the optional 2-post rackmount kit - RK2PC (sold separately, one 2-post mounting kit required per UPS/EBM/transformer module).

Which applications and environments are ideal for the 9PX G2 UPS?

Common applications include edge networks, distributed IT, mission-critical environments, data centers, server rooms, network closets and AI at the edge. The 9PX G2 UPS provides online double conversion, pure sine wave output, complete battery backup and power protection for mission-critical IT installations, edge networks and other advanced network applications.

Does the 9PX G2 UPS support connecting external battery modules (EBMs)?

The 9PX G2 supports connecting up to 12 optional external battery modules (EBMs) for extended runtime.

Have you reduced the size of the 8-11 kVA UPS?

Yes, it has gone from a 6U footprint to one 4U chassis!

How have you been able to reduce the size of the UPS? Have you decreased the runtime?

The 9PX G2 UPS uses new wide-bandgap (silicon carbide) power electronics components. Those components have a smaller footprint and are more energy efficient than traditional components. Eaton has not made any compromise on the runtime.

Why haven’t you reduced the size of the 6 kVA UPS?

The 3U form factor used on the 9PX G2 5/6 kVA UPS provides the best balance between power capacity, runtime and outlet count.

Will there be 9PX G2 lithium-ion UPS models launching?

Yes! 9PX G2 lithium-ion UPS models 6-11 kVA will be coming in a second wave.

Will there be any compatibility of new models with legacy models?

Yes, it will be possible to use an adapter cable (sold separately) to connect legacy 9PX EBMs with 9PX G2 UPS systems.

What is the difference between lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries?

Valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries have long been the industry standard choice for UPS batteries. Lithium-ion batteries have a longer life span, smaller footprint and faster recharge time compared to VRLA batteries. While more costly up front, a lithium-ion battery UPS can save a considerable amount on operating expenses over the life of your UPS.

Which network card should be used with the 9PX G2?

9PX G2 UPS models are bundled with the Eaton Gigabit Network Card, the first in the industry to comply with both UL and IEC cybersecurity standards. Additional network card slot options are available, including the Industrial Gateway Card and Relay Card-MS.

What is Advanced Battery Management Plus (ABM+)?

Advanced Battery Management Plus (ABM+) technology improves predictive battery replacement analytics to better pinpoint when you should replace UPS batteries. This predictive algorithm allows the UPS to proactively alert the user of battery health and remaining service life based on actual usage and conditions. ABM+ prevents unexpected downtime caused by waiting too long and unnecessary expense caused by replacing too soon. It also optimizes charging to increase battery lifespan up to 50%.

What is online double-conversion topology?

Online double conversion is one of the main UPS topologies. Online UPS systems provide the highest level of protection and isolate equipment from raw utility power by converting power from AC to DC and back to AC. Unlike other topologies, double conversion provides zero transfer time to battery for sensitive equipment to help prevent dropped loads and downtime. The online double-conversion UPS topology is best applied to mission-critical equipment and locations where utility power is poor or highly unreliable.

Did you know?

The 9PX G2 UPS can be paired with a standby generator for applications that must stay online 24/7 without interruptions.

Will my current UPS software monitor my new Eaton UPS?

Yes, every 9PX G2 UPS comes with a cybersecure Gigabit Network Card, allowing you to monitor and manage your UPS fleet remotely for greater convenience and peace of mind. For smaller environments, you can connect to UPS systems using a web browser and receive email alerts. For larger deployments spanning multiple locations, 9PX G2 UPS systems integrate smoothly via SNMP with digital solutions from our Brightlayer Data Centers suite.

Is the 9PX G2 UPS ENERGY STAR compliant?

All 9PX G2 UPS models are ENERGY STAR compliant. With up to 97% efficiency in online mode, the 9PX G2 is the most efficient UPS system in its class, reducing energy costs and TCO. Click here to see the full list of applicable models.

Does the 9PX G2 UPS have a warranty?

Yes, a 3-year limited factory warranty for VRLA models is included, with optional extended service plans available. Click here to see all our service plan offerings.

Where can I register my 9PX G2 UPS?

Click here to register your products and receive automated email notifications regarding the latest firmware updates for cybersecurity.

What does the “recharge by” label on the carton mean?

If the recharge date on the label has not passed, UPS batteries must be charged (connected to utility power) for at least 24 hours before they will be fully charged. If the recharge date has passed and you did not power up and charge the UPS batteries previously, the batteries are degraded and should be replaced. For long-term storage after the first recharge, the UPS batteries should be charged every 6 months.
