PRAGUE/ROZTOKY, Czech Republic – Intelligent power management company Eaton today announced a new strategic partnership between Brno University of Technology (BUT) and the Eaton European Innovation Center (EEIC) to accelerate R&D around digitalization, energy transition and sustainability.

As one of the largest and most prestigious technical universities in central Europe, BUT has a formidable reputation for mechanical, electrical, control and software engineering. Signed in February 2023, the new partnership will strengthen R&D at the EEIC by unleashing privileged access to BUT’s expert professors and talented students, as well as the university’s state-of-the-art technical facilities and equipment. In addition, Eaton will sponsor BUT as one of its key industry partners.

Following the success of past collaborations on specific projects, this new partnership will enable BUT and the EEIC to work together more closely than ever before in support of Europe’s transition to a new power paradigm where energy can be generated locally, sustainably and economically. Under the new agreement, BUT will offer the EEIC expert research consultations and analyses, feasibility studies and simulations, testing and laboratory time, training and workshops, student collaboration, and support in securing government and other third-party opportunities.

“I’m thrilled we’re formalizing our ties with BUT through this exciting new partnership,” comments Ludek Janik, engineering manager, Eaton Research Labs, Eaton European Innovation Center. “Close collaboration with the best of academia is vital to our pursuit of cutting-edge R&D, both in terms of expert people and state-of-the-art equipment. With greater access to outstanding researchers and technical facilities, we can supercharge our efforts to support business units across Eaton with game-changing innovations that will drive tomorrow’s smarter and more flexible power systems.”

Opened in 2012, the EEIC has built a global reputation for solving the world’s toughest power management challenges. As part of Eaton’s global Corporate Research and Technology group, the EEIC unites around 200 specialists from 20 countries with expertise spanning automotive, residential, electro and IT power innovation. In addition to the new partnership with BUT, the EEIC currently collaborates with several other world-class academic institutions in the Czech Republic, including the University of West Bohemia and Czech Technical University in Prague.

“Leveraging the expertise of world-class academic institutions is vital to our innovation strategy and acts as a powerful force multiplier on our own R&D investments,” adds Dominik Laska, director, Eaton European Innovation Center. “Our new partnership with BUT also strengthens our ability to participate in future Czech government and European Union innovation projects, as well as secure collaboration opportunities with the university’s other industry sponsors. Perhaps most importantly of all, the chance to work closely with students means we can help the next generation of talented engineers gain valuable industry experience and seize the wealth of career opportunities at Eaton, strengthening our pipeline of future-ready talent.”
