Following the global trend of renewable energies and sustainability

Costs of Energy are rising and availability is tight. Especially the prices of electric power and gas have doubled in the last year. The energy crisis couldn´t be more noticeable.

In addition to that, Climate Change requires drastic measures in industry such as reducing its emissions and increasing energy efficiency to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Fossil fuels, natural gas, coal and mineral oils will soon be the past as renewable energies such as solar energy, wind energy or biogas take over the market.

Eaton ist part of that recent developement and helps customers to overcome this change with cost efficient solutions. Newly developed products bring innovative solutions for upcoming issues in this transition phase.

Renewable Energy

Coal Phase-Out has already started and many countries want to completely abolish coal-mining until 2030. Fossil energies are replaced by solar and wind energy. Eaton supports suppliers of renewable energies with its wide range of products which makes their production cheaper and more efficient.

Biogas

Next to the classical renewable energies there is one mostly unknown power source which is biogas. Not only individuals but also the industry especially the food and beverage manufacturing is producing a lot of biological/organic waste that is currently not being used. 46% of the power that is produced in gas-fired power stations can be replaced by using this waste and turning it in to biogas. Trash cans for organic waste are establsihed in more and more communities anyways so this development can be used to create energy.

One of our costumers is Flexbio. Not only do they clear waste water and make it usable again, they as well recover energy and nutrients out of it with Eaton products making their system work.

The Eaton Solution partner iSatt and Milde-Hydraulik delivered an automated leakage monitoring system for the hydraulic pumps for the bio gas production in agriculture.  The customer receives a solution from a single source that significantly reduces the time and effort required for leakage pump maintenance. Because of the IoT connection it enables event-based maintenance, a reduction in service intervals and thus significant cost savings.

Industry Challenge

Our industry is one of the biggest energy consumers which is why many laws and regulations are made to reduce emissions and save energy. Currently approximately one quarter of our energy is consumed by it. Despite a clean power generation we also need a better utilization of energy meaning that energy shouldn´t be wasted and used in the most efficient way possible. Eaton provides several products and solutions for different systems to improve their energy efficieny in industrial manufacturing.

DC in Industry

Energy is increasingly generated as wind and solar energy which is DC current. However the actual use in factories is AC current and during the DC AC transformation energy is being lost. Therefore an innitiave of the German Electro Industry (ZVEI) researched if the use of DC currents in factories could bring additional advantages. One is the reduced use of copper in DC systems. Another the complete recovery of breaking energy.

Motor Control

A majority of the entity of produced power for industry in the European Union is being consumed by electrical motors in manufacturing. Nowadays, where energy is getting more expenisve on a daily basis, reducing the consumption of energy is becoming more interesting then ever before. By using the right products, applications and solutions from Eaton, saving energy is made easy and eventually money can be saved.

Energy Management

Increasing Energy costs and the goal to reduce their global footprint results in companies trying to reduce their energy consumption. When energy reduction targets are set, it is important to know the baseline situation: What is the total consumption and which are the highest individual consumers? Only when this information is available, it can be decided which measures promise the greatest benefit.

Heating & Cooling

Cold weather in summer and warm weather in winter -doesn´t sound right? Due to the Climate Change our temperatures change and the industry is affected a lot. HVAC and Heat pump business rose and solutions for energy efficient temperature control is needed. Eaton provides products and solutions for both of these topics.

Solution

Heating, Cooling and general ventilation consume a lot of energy. But with energy-efficient technologies and process optimization energy consumption can be reduced by 30% in pumps and even HVAC systems can become energy-effiecient with our products like variable frequency drives which reduce CO^2 emissions and energy consumption.
