Low-voltage switchgear

Arc-resistant Magnum PXR low-voltage switchgear

Arc-resistant switchgear is designed to safely contain and redirect arc flash energy away from the operator. Arc-resistant Magnum PXR switchgear has been tested in all three compartments for a full 0.5 seconds (30 cycles), passing the ANSI/IEEE C37.20.7, Type 2B test guide at 100 kA, 508 V and 85 kA, 635 V, including an industry-exclusive Type 2B rating for the secondary door above the breakers.

Understanding arc-flash safety

There are multiple options available when specifying low-voltage switchgear with a focus on arc-flash safety.

Core features

  • Third-party tested the ANSI/IEEE C37.20.7 test guide for arc-resistant switchgear
  • Draw-out low voltage power circuit breakers while maintaining Type 2B rating
  • Short circuit withstand rating up to 85 kA @ 635 Vac and up to 100 kA @ 508 Vac
  • 30 cycle (0.5 second) short-time withstand rating
  • Plenum and direct venting available to direct arc gasses to top of the enclosure
  • NEMA 1 enclosure, with either top or bottom cable or bus duct entry

Certified to enhance safety

IEEE/ANSI Type 2B is certified arc-resistant around the entire perimeter of the equipment, even when the low-voltage instrument compartment door and the secondary door above the breaker door are open. Type 2B rating offers superior protection against arcs in breaker, bus or cable compartments with no increase in footprint over Magnum PXR switchgear.

Automatic transfer schemes

When providing redundant power sources for critical power applications, select the:

  • Eaton ATC-900 controller for lineups with main-main, main-generator or generator-generator applications
  • Eaton PLC with Eaton touchscreen for automatic main-tie-main transfer
  • Eaton Power Xpert Dashboard to monitor or control transfer schemes for a main-tie-main and adjust settings and sequence details
