Low-voltage switchgear

Arc Quenching Magnum DS low-voltage switchgear

Arc Quenching Switchgear reduces incident energy to a level where the switchgear will survive an electrical arc flash event, while providing enhanced safety and minimal equipment downtime. Arc Quenching switchgear meets and exceeds the arc-resistant testing requirements of C37.20.7 by demonstrating acceptance even when breakers are removed, doors are open, covers are removed, and without the need for ducts, plenums or special enclosure construction.

    Reduced incident energy

Arc Quenching Switchgear detects and extinguishes an electrical arc flash in less than 4 ms – dramatically reducing incident energy below 1.2 cal/cm² and reacting 10x faster than systems that rely solely on circuit breakers to clear an arc fault, including maintenance switches, zone selective interlocking (ZSI), bus differential relaying and arc detection relays.

    Enhanced arc flash safety

Arc Quenching Switchgear meets and exceeds ANSI/IEEE C37.20.7 Type 2B arc-resistant testing requirements with breakers removed and breaker, secondary or cable compartment doors open, delivering the highest level of arc flash protection without the need for ducts, plenums, special enclosure construction or venting into the room.

    Switchgear arc protection

Arc Quenching Switchgear minimizes or eliminates damage to switchgear in the event of an arc fault, protecting valuable switchgear assets from electrical arc flash damage. It is designed to reduce peak fault current by at least 25% and peak stress on upstream equipment by at least 44% when compared to a bolted fault device.

    Reduced downtime

Arc Quenching Switchgear employs the Eaton Arc Flash Relay which utilizes advanced algorithms to prevent nuisance tripping of the Arc Quenching Device (AQD). Should an electrical arc flash occur, restoring service can be accomplished within hours.

    Automatic transfer schemes

When providing redundant power sources for critical power applications, select the:

    • Eaton ATC-900 controller for lineups with main-main, main-generator or generator-generator applications
    • Eaton PLC with Eaton touchscreen for automatic main-tie-main transfer
    • Eaton Power Xpert Dashboard to monitor or control transfer schemes for a main-tie-main and adjust settings and sequence details
