Medium-voltage transformers

Multi-tap substation transformer

Eaton's Cooper Power series Multi-tap substation transformers increase reliability and flexibility in the field for electric submersible pump (ESP) applications. The multi-tap transformer steps-up the low-voltage output from a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) to power pumps. With 25 different voltage settings in both delta and wye connections, multi-tap transformers are available with either mineral oil or FR3 fluid.

Base rating
100-1000 kVA
High voltage
750/1500 Delta and 1299/2685 Wye up to 1400/2800 Delta and 2425/4850 Wye
Low voltage
480 V or 600 V

Core features

  • When filled with highly efficient FR3 dielectric fluid, the unit provides fire safety benefits
  • Factory UL listed multi-tap transformers save thousands of dollars on costly third-party field certification
  • Multiple taps provide system tuning for application flexibility at multiple depths, fluid volume and pressure, and changes in pump conditions
  • Ideal for commercial and industrial applications
  • Delta-wye switch available in lieu of jumpers

Specifically designed for Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs)

Because artificial lift operations for oil production can be located up to 20,000 feet below ground and cable fed for power, a voltage drop over this length of cable can be several hundred volts. Multi-tap transformers enable quick and easy adjusting of voltage feeding the pump.

Ultimate design flexibility

Standard multi-tap transformer designs are available with shorter lead-times, while engineered-to-order designs provide the flexibility for a utility to mate up with any drive and pump/motor combination.

The safer, environmentally friendly choice

Utilizing FR3 high-fire-point dielectric fluid, Eaton's Cooper Power series multi-tap transformers enhance fire safety while providing environmental benefits. Because the fluid is readily biodegradable and non-toxic, FR3 fluid provides sustainable performance at a low cost.

Save space and reduce equipment coordination

Close-couple medium-voltage liquid-filled transformers with low and medium-voltage assemblies in a streamlined unit substation design.
