Design and modelling

Defining the types of customers and loads on the system and specifying the various generation models is the cornerstone of a complete, accurate analysis. Eaton's CYME software supports modelling of new devices, power sources, microgrids, power electronics and storage.

Powerful distribution system analysis

As power systems transition to two-way flow systems, accurate analysis must include all generation sources. Eaton’s CYME software algorithms provide an efficient means for creating accurate system analyses.

Meet the challenges of DER systems

Distribution systems become more complex with the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER) and the addition of power electronics and controls. Eaton’s CYME software applications support the advanced simulation of the entire network, to allow detailed and reliable modelling.

Design and modelling

Network Editor

The Network Editor features a user-customisable graphical user interface underlying the CYMDIST applications and the complementary CYME analyses modules.

This includes extensive modelling capability of distributed energy resources (DER) equipment and energy storage; along with the definition of all customer types necessary. The software also includes control models that are relevant to the various generation sources. All libraries can be enriched by users.

The Network Editor is included in the Distribution System Analysis package (CYMDIST).

Enhanced substation modelling

This module enables the accurate representation of all the major components of a distribution substation, as well as  any sub-network, such as a vault, a switching cubicle or an industrial facility. The simulations then take into account the effects of these installations on the overall distribution system.

Low-voltage secondary distribution modelling

The low-voltage secondary distribution model performs the detailed modelling and simulation of any circuit beyond the distribution transformer. This includes single-phase centre-tapped transformers, plex cables, single-phase three-wire LV circuits.

Secondary grid network analysis

Secondary grid network analysis allows users to model any spot network, secondary grid and detailed network protector relay with complete settings. The module is equipped with robust power flow and short-circuit algorithms to analyse heavily meshed networks.

Online maps service

Display Google Maps and MapQuest Open maps as layers underneath the geographical view of your electrical network model. With this service, users can locate a substation, a particular feeder, a street corner, or pinpoint the address where a fault occurred.

Geographic overlay

Geographic overlay displays raster or vector map images (geographical landbase such as DWG, DXF, SHP, etc.) as layers directly underneath your electrical model. The module allows the import and display of several maps in different formats, so your users can visualise the distribution system over a comprehensive landbase.

DER impact evaluation

Generation interconnection system impact studies can be executed within minutes with this module. It clearly assesses the impacts of DER interconnections on the distribution system, such as steady-state voltage levels, overloads and reverse power flow. The module executes a comprehensive system impact study that integrates several criteria-based verifications and multiple scenarios in order to flag abnormal conditions.

Network disturbance assessment

The network disturbance assessment module evaluates the power quality disturbances produced by equipment on a power source’s signal, by determining if the equipment passes different power quality tests. Analysis is based on the standard “Technical Rules for the Assessment of Network Disturbance” published by a German-Austrian-Swiss-Czech working group.
